Firefighters make house call on retired chief

The Brillion News

WRIGHTSTOWN - Firefighters do make house calls, and drive-by visits too.

It happened at 1 p.m. Saturday, April 18, as firefighters from five rural volunteer fire departments paid a call on retired Wrightstown Fire Chief Gene Vande Hey, who is in his third all-out battle with cancer.

Firefighters and fire apparatus from the Wrightstown, Greenleaf, Hollandtown, Lawrence, and Kaukauna/Vandenbroek volunteer fire departments paraded slowly down Main Street in Wrightstown - with red lights and sirens - as Vande Hey stood on the front porch of his home with a big smile and gentle wave. You might say Vande Hey got some mutual aid from neighboring communities - something that happens all the time in the fire service.

A complete story and photo gallery will appear in the April 23 print edition of THE BRILLION NEWS, available on Thursday, April 23, at convenience stores in Wrightstown, Greenleaf, Hollandtown, Forest Junction, Hilbert, Brillion and Reedsville.
