New Holstein man killed in I-43 crash

TOWN OF LEDGEVIEW - A 74-year old New Holstein man was killed in a crash shortly before 6:230 a.m. on Monday, February 14, i Brown County.

It happened on I-43 in Ledgeview - on a section of the freeway between the Village of Bellevue and Town of New Denmark


It began at approximately 6:24 a.m. when the Brown County Sheriff’s Office, Ledgeview Fire Dept and County Rescue responded to a report of a two-vehicle crash on southbound I-43 by Glenmore Road in Ledgeview.


Sheriff's Lt. Jason McAuly said preliminary investigation showed that a blue 2011 Chevy Equinox had been southbound on I-43 and for some reason it came to a stop or near stop in the right lane of traffic.


A 2015 Chevy Silverado pickup truck also traveling southbound rear-ended the Equinox causing heavy damage to both vehicles.


The Equinox was forced into the center median of I-43 and the Silverado went down the west ditch/embankment after the crash.

No other vehicles were involved. Both drivers were the only vehicle occupants.

The Silverado was driven by a 28-year-old Green Bay area man who released with no noted injury.

The Equinox was driven by a 74-year-old man from New Holstein who was transported from the scene in critical condition and was shortly thereafter pronounced deceased at an area

hospital.

Names are being withheld at this time pending family notification.

The Brown County Sheriff’s Office accident reconstruction team responded to the scene for documentation and investigation. Southbound traffic was shut down until about 9 a.m.
