Obituary: Alice Wagner

Alice Wagner, age 84, of Brillion, lost her brave battle with cancer on September 14, 2024.

Alice was born on June 14, 1940 to Earl and Hazel Babcock. Alice was raised in the Wyocena /Pardeeville area. She was married twice, both husbands are deceased.

She was proud of her two children: Jeff (Vanessa) Appleton, and Jenni (Craig) Detert Brillion.  Alice also had two amazing grandsons: Ethan (Emily) Wagner, Appleton and Corbin Wagner, Kimberly. They were her Joy Boys!

Alice was quite the cat lover. She loved all her cats over her lifetime. Her latest was her best companion, a red furred cat named Ruby.

In her early days, she worked for the Portage Daily Register and National Cash Register Corporation. After that, she went on to become the first-ever secretary for the Brillion Elementary School. She was well respected and made a lot of lifelong friends. Alice described herself as a “Damn Good Secretary.”  She was there for 33 years, retiring in 2008.

Alice loved planning and making the food for our family get-togethers that she called - “Souper and Thankmas” as well as our Family Reunions.  She always looked forward to school shopping with her grandsons, with a stop at Mr. Cinders for a steak sandwich. Alice loved gardening and putting puzzles together. She really enjoyed the fresh tomatoes from Jenni and Craig's garden. Alice enjoyed making the boys her famous Bologna-Pickles-Mayo- Sandwich Mix. She liked visiting with her friendly neighbors, Dorothy, Frank and Mr. Dunbar. She was a big fan of the old soap operas – As The World Turns, Guiding Light and The Secret Storm as well as singers, Neil Diamond and Tammy Wynette.

Alice treasured and loved her siblings, brother: Morrie Babcock and sisters: Helen Cook and Beryl Allen, including her dear nieces and nephews. She was known as “Aunt Alice” to all of them.

Alice was preceded in death by her parents, brother and sister-in-law: Morrie and Lou Babcock, sister and brother-in-law: Beryl and Orlando Allen, brother-in-law: Bob Pulver and niece: Annette Allen-Vingum.

We would like to thank Sabrena, Chris and everyone at Calumet County Home Health and Hospice who took great care of her.

Per her wishes, there will be no funeral service.

We Love You (Mom, Grandma), and we will miss you!

The Pielhop Wieting Funeral Homes of Brillion & Reedsville are assisting the family.
