Obituary: Arlyn “Arlie” E. Fuhrmann

Arlyn “Arlie” E. Fuhrmann, age 79, of Brillion passed away on Friday, June 9, 2023 at home after a long battle with cancer, two days before his 57th wedding anniversary to Jane, his high school sweetheart.

Arlie was born on April 25, 1944 at the homestead in the Town of Rantoul. After graduating from Chilton High School in 1962, he went to Dunwoody College of Technology in Minneapolis, MN. On June 11, 1966, he married his high school sweetheart, Jane Pagel at Peace Evangelical and Reformed church in Potter. With his degree from Dunwoody College of Technology, Arlie established Fuhrmann Heating in 1970 in the bottom of his in-law’s barn. Arlie also served on the Brillion Volunteer Fire Department for 25 years starting out as a volunteer member. He was soon promoted up the ranks: chief engineer, 1st assistant chief and in his final two years as chief. Arlie was a former member of the Brillion Lions Club, the Deer Run Snow Riders and the Brillion Conservation Club. Arlie was a world traveler with his wife, Blondie. They enjoyed snow birding in Florida for 15 years. In his free time, Arlie enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, and spending time with friends. Arlie was slow to anger, had a great sense of humor, helpful to all, had a funny laugh and was the kind of guy who was loved by all who knew him. Survivors include his wife: Jane (Pagel); their children: Andrew (Susan) Fuhrmann, Amy (Tim) Hanson, Audra (Shawn) Neuman; nine grandchildren: Katelynn (fiancé Jason) Fuhrmann, Kristine (special friend Luke) Fuhrmann, Brandon (fiancée Cassie) Fuhrmann, Elizabeth “Libby” (fiancé CJ) Hanson, Tanner Hanson, Landon Hanson, Aidan Neuman, Adeline Neuman and Ashlin Neuman; two great granddaughters: Bailey Grace and Stella Jane; two sisters-in-law: Jean (Gerald) Hoyer, Joan (John) Holzschuh; AFS Student: Junko Takahashi, nephews and nieces: Adam Schwahn, Nathan Schwahn, Tera Pagel Holzschuh, and George Holzschuh, and his Godchildren: June Maile, Terry Behnke, Nathan Schwahn, Todd Kuchenbecker, and George Holzschuh. He was preceded in death by his parents: Erich and Adeline (Gruett) Fuhrmann; one sister and brother-in-law: Marlene (Art) Tews; his father-in-law and mother-in-law: Larry and Vesta (Schuler) Pagel; and his best friend and hunting/fishing buddy: Wally Sonnabend. Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, June 12, 2023 at Peace Ev. & Reformed Church. Officiating at the service will be the Rev. Dr. Marc Axelrod with burial to follow at Brillion Community Cemetery. The family will greet relatives and friends on Sunday, June11, 2023 at the Pielhop Wieting Funeral Home, Brillion, from 2:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. The visitation will continue Monday morning at church from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service at 10:30 a.m. Online condolences may be made. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the Brillion Fire Department and Ambulance, Chilton DaVita Center, as well as Calumet County Hospice, especially Amber, for all the care and compassion shown to Arlie and his family.
