OBITUARY: Arlyn H. Plate

Kimberly - Arlyn H. Plate, age 86, died January 10, 2022 at Theda Clark Medical Center.


He was born March 18, 1935 in Brillion, the son of Gustave and Ruth (Merbach) Plate. Arlyn grew up in his parents cheese factory where he attended and was confirmed at Trinity Lutheran grade school of Brillion. While attending Brillion High School he was active in baseball, basketball, band, mixed chorus, and served as president of his class of 1953.

After graduation Arlyn worked for the Brillion Dairy prior to enlisting in the U.S. Army where he was stationed in Japan and Korea. After serving, he attended the University of Wisconsin – Oshkosh. He taught social studies for 30 years at Menasha High School. He was a proud member of the Menasha Teachers Union and served as one of their presidents. He also enjoyed coaching baseball on many levels, as well as serving as the first JV coach at Menasha.

He met a beautiful gal named Pat on a blind date in 1961, they were married on August 11, 1962, and had two sons, Steve and Matthew. In 1975 the family moved back to their hometown to help Pat’s dad on the farm. Arlyn retired in 1992 but substituted at Menasha until 2002. After Pat retired, the two enjoyed their extensive travels through the continental United States.

He is survived by his wife Patricia; sons: Steve & Tani (Winkler) Plate, Matthew & Tammy (Krizenesky) Plate; grandchildren: Joshua, Jared & Katie (Miller) Plate, Kendra, Devin, Logan; great grandchild, Braelynn. He was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers: Charles & Eugene; sister, Barbera; and his father and mother in-law Clarence & Lucinda Koerth, as well as many aunts, uncles, and cousins.

He was a beloved husband, brother, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather who was loved by all and will be missed dearly.

Visitation will be at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, 2330 E. Calumet Street, Appleton, on Saturday, January 15, 2022 starting at 9:00 a.m. with time of service at 10:00 a.m. Masks are requested and will be provided.
