Obituary: Carl M. Hopfensperger

Carl M. Hopfensperger, age 47, a resident of Menasha, died Monday morning, September 11, 2023 in a tragic accident.

As the world mourned the loss of so many heroes on 9/11, we mourn the loss of our hero – Carl, our son, father, brother, uncle and friend for he truly was our hero. Carl was born on June 12, 1976 in Appleton, son of Gregory and Kathleen (Jacob) Hopfensperger. He was a graduate of Reedsville High School, Class of 1994. Carl was employed at Tillamany Papermill. Carl loved the Lord. He loved life, family, hunting, fishing and sports. If you even mention fishing, his face lit up. He was on his way to pick up our boat when the accident happened. He was leaving for a men’s retreat where he was going to be fishing daily. He looked forward to his vacation every year spending a whole week with his church family and fishing. He always said “life don’t get no better than this.”

Survivors include a son: Jonathan (special friend Alyssa); his parents: Gregory & Kathleen Hopfensperger, Wayside; a sister and brother-in-law: Bobbie Jo (Danny Sr.) Day, Reedsville; nieces and nephews: Ariel, Ashley (special friend Keith), Amanda, Danny Jr. (special friend Raven), Dominique, Darius, all of Reedsville; a great niece and nephew: Anastasia & Atticus; and a special cousin: Bill VanAsten, Combined Locks. Aunts, uncles and other relatives also survive. He was preceded in death by his grandparents: Greg Sr. & Gladys Hopfensperger, Robert Jacob, Roberta (Marv) Van Den Eng and aunts: Debbie Meetz, Megan Hopfensperger, Helen Hopfensperger, Sue Clavers and Karen Quella.

Funeral Services were held at 4:00 p.m. Saturday, September 16, 2023 at Hope City Church, 1866 N. Casaloma Drive, Appleton. Officiating the Service was Pastor Philip Bridges. The family met with relatives and friends at Hope City Church, from 2:00 p.m. Saturday until 3:45 p.m. Online condolences may be made. The Pielhop Wieting Funeral Homes of Reedsville & Brillion are assisting the family with funeral arrangements. I hope Heaven has a really big lake. Fish away my son, until I see you again. Mom & Dad.
