Obituary: Dorothy A. Riemer

Dorothy A. Riemer, age 91, of Brillion, passed away Monday evening, May 27, 2024 at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Appleton.

 




Dorothy was born on August 7, 1932 on the Hartz Homestead in Rantoul. She was the daughter to the later Herman Hartz, who died at 33 years old due to pneumonia, relapse and a stroke. She was also daughter to the late Laurena (Behnke) Hartz, mainly known as Laura, who died at age 63. Dorothy was born after her father had died and had two brothers, aged 5 and 6 at the time. Laura stayed on the family farm with her in-laws. 

 

Dorothy was baptized, confirmed and married at Peace Ev. and Reformed Church in Potter. She attended Potter grade school and graduated from Hilbert High School with the class of 1950. She then worked in the office at Brillion Iron Works for 4 years. Dorothy was united in marriage to Carl H. Riemer on August 30, 1952 and she then became a member at Trinity Lutheran Church in Rantoul.  He preceded her in death on November 17, 2013. She and Carl had two sons: Robert and Randall. 

 

They resided on the Riemer Homestead, who needed their help. Carl also worked full time in Brillion for their living. After his parents passed away, they built their house and moved to Brillion in 1979. Dorothy was a very caring and loving mother. She was a very active person, but she developed chronic RA in 2006, which did limit her, but she still did her best. 

 

Survivors include her two sons: Robert C. Riemer, Brillion, Randall H. Riemer, Mineral Point; eight nieces, three nephews, their spouses, cousins, friends and neighbors also survive. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two brothers: Harvey (Janice) Hartz, Harold (Delores) Hartz; one Hartz aunt: Mary Hartz; many Behnke aunts and uncles, father-in-law and mother-in-law: Henry C. and Norma (Beer) Hartz; one sister-in-law: Lavonne Riemer; and many cousins. 

 

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 1, 2024 at Trinity Lutheran Church – Rantoul. Officiating at the service will be the Rev. Brett Simek with burial to follow in the church cemetery.

 

The family will greet relatives and friends on Saturday, June 1, 2024 at church from 9:00 a.m. until 10:45 a.m.
