OBITUARY: Ervin Plate

Ervin Plate, age 77, of Hilbert, died peacefully with his family around him on December 11, 2019. He was born April 21, 1942, in Rantoul, son of the late Oscar and Marie Plate. On April 16, 1966, he married Mary Ann Schommer and together they had four children.

Ervin is survived by his children: Curt (Becky) Plate, Dean (Tia) Plate, Kevin ( Laurie) Plate, and Alan (Holly) Plate; 14 grandchildren: Bryce Plate (Lindsey Fischer), Taylor Plate, Kylee Plate, Keira Plate, Dakota Egan, Adam Rhedin, Zach Rhedin, Matthew Rhedin, Alex (Bailey) Miller, Brent Plate (Alyssa Serwe), Madison Plate, Makayla Plate, and Brady Plate; four great-grandchildren: Adrianna Miller, Braeden Miller, Cameron Miller, and Delaney Miller; sister: Rachel (Duane) Fietzer; sister-in-law: Marjean Plate; and special friends: Chet and Linda Johnston.

Ervin was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Ann; his parents: Oscar and Marie; a granddaughter: Hayley Plate; sisters: Alta (Earl) Pagel, Ruby (Jim) Gruett, Alice (Ted) Steinklyft, and Elaine (Bob) Kramer; and brothers: Merlin (Norma) Plate and Virgil Plate.

A funeral service is scheduled for 11:00am on Wednesday, December 18, 2019, at the St. Peter Lutheran Church (43 N. 3rd St.) in Hilbert with Rev. Mark Krueger officiating. Friends may call from 4:00pm 7:00pm on Tuesday, December 17, at the Wieting Family Funeral Home (411 W. Main St.) in Chilton, and from 10:00am to 10:45am at the church on the day of service. Burial will take place at the St. Peter Parish Cemetery following the service.
