Eugene L. Schneider, age 87 of Whitelaw passed away peacefully Sunday, March 23, 2025, at the Aurora Medical Center of Manitowoc County with his loving family at his side. Though our hearts ache, we take comfort in knowing that he is now at peace.
Eugene was born on June 20, 1937, at the home farm in Osman, a son of the late Jerome and Leona (Schad) Schneider. He was a 1955 graduate of Kiel High School. Following high school, Eugene enlisted in the U.S. Army serving in Korea from 1955 until 1957. On September 12, 1959, Eugene was married to Corrine “Conni” Kohlbeck at St. Michael Catholic Church, Whitelaw. Eugene was a machinist at Parker Hanifan Mfg., retiring in 2000.
Eugene was a member of St. Michael Catholic Church, Whitelaw. Eugene was a kind, dedicated and hardworking individual who always put the needs of others ahead of his own. These traits were reflected both at home and in the community. Eugene devoted his time and energy as a Whitelaw Volunteer firefighter for 51 years, ending his service as the fire chief. He was on the Manitowoc County Arson Investigation Squad, president of the Village of Whitelaw and a volunteer for the Manitowoc County Sheriff’s Department.
Survivors include his wife: Conni Schneider, Whitelaw; one daughter: Paula Freimuth, Brillion; two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren: Camrin (Will) Sullivan, Port Washington and their two sons, Finn and Hugo Sullivan, Dr. Jocelyn Freimuth, Nashville, TN; one grandson-in-law: Justin Schnell, Brillion and his daughter Marina Schnell; one sister and brother-in-law: Carol (Tom) Greenwood, Naples, FL.; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Leroy Kohlbeck, Appleton, Marvin (Sherry) Kohlbeck, Pittsville, Jerome “Sonny” Kohlbeck, Whitelaw, Dianne Schuh, Collins, Jim (Connie) Kohlbeck, Whitelaw, Patty Yohanek, Reedsville, Gary (Sandy) Kohlbeck, Branch; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends survive. He was preceded in death by his parents: Jerome and Leona Schneider; an infant son: David John Schneider; one granddaughter: Vanessa Schnell; one sister and brother-in-law: JoAnne (Marlin) Voss; two brothers and one sister-in-law: Ralph (Maxine) Schneider, Paul Schneider; father-in-law and mother-in-law: Harvey and Tillie Kohlbeck; one brother-in-law and two sisters-in-law: Edward “Jack” Yohanek, Theresa Kohlbeck, Mary Kohlbeck.
Private funeral services were held at the St. Michael Catholic Church, Whitelaw. Rev. Richard Klingeisen celebrated the Mass of Chrisitan Burial, burial followed in the parish cemetery.
