OBITUARY: Lyn Doris M. (Keller) Schaefer

Lyn Doris M. (Keller) Schaefer – Lodes, age 95, a Brillion resident, passed away Sunday, September 6, 2020 at West Haven in Brillion.



She was born June 23, 1925 in Brillion, WI daughter of the late Nicholas Edward & Catherine (Wimmer) Keller. She graduated from Brillion High School in 1943. Lyn was a Rosie the Riveter working about 3 years at Brillion Iron Works during World War II. On November 30, 1946 she married Eugene Schaefer at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Brillion. He preceded her in death on July 10, 1973. She then married Alphonse Lodes on June 21, 1980 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Brillion. He preceded her in death on October 18, 2006. She also leaves behind her very dear friend Ed Voss and his daughter Vicki.


Lyn was employed at Chilton Metal Products for 30 years while raising 12 children on the family farm at Becker Lake. She had the pleasure of spending her last day there enjoying a cookout and campfire. Lyn was a member of Catholic Knights Branch 83 of Brillion, Christian Mothers, Chilton Eagles Auxiliary, Chilton American Legion Auxiliary, and was a Gold Star Sister. Lyn enjoyed canning anything from the garden especially dill pickles. She was well known for her chicken soup and banana bread. At every wedding it was a family tradition for her to do the chicken dance. She took up crocheting after her retirement and made close to 140 afghans, plus thousands of dish cloths for family and friends. All of her hobbies were done well into her mid 90’s.


She enjoyed traveling to Hawaii, Europe, Prague, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Caribbean cruise, Venezuela, Mexico City, Taxco, Acapulco, and an Alaskan cruise. Lyn enjoyed many trips with Nationwide Tours such as Indiana to see entertainers like Bob Hope and Eddie Arnold, mystery trips, Niagara Falls, boat trip on the Mississippi with several trips to Branson and Florida with Debbie & Bob. She looked forward to her annual trip to Ski Brule with family and friends – if you are curious, she played cards and games, she did not ski. Lyn Doris also enjoyed going with Gene & Susie for the VetsRoll for the Rosie the Riveter.


Survivors include her children: Gene (Susan) Schaefer, the late James (Karyl) Schaefer, Sue (Al) Meyer, Jet (Denise) Schaefer, Ron (Pam) Schaefer, Karen (Doug) Shymanski, Dick (Bonnie) Schaefer, Dennis (Jackie) Schaefer, Randy (Janice) Schaefer, Barb (Bill) Yost, Debbie (Bob) Trudell, Mike (Cindy) Schaefer; her grandchildren: Kristine (Steve) Frank, Toni Lynn (Brandon) Burkel, Erik (friend Jolene Brugman), Brenda (Sean) Bastian, Lisa (Chad) Dombrowski, Laura (Mark) Ott, Michelle (Eric) Thede, Kelly (Eric) Koslowski, Billie Jo (Jesse) Emmer, Brad Meyer, Casey Schaefer, Corey (Heather) Schaefer, Jason (Terry) Schaefer, Nicole (Scott) O’Connell, Jeremy Schaefer, Steve (Heather) Gebhart, Kevin Gebhart, Greg Schaefer, Megan (Andres) Bejarano, Kayde Schaefer, Derek Schaefer, Cassie (Ian) Hourihan, Travis (fiancé Sara Schnelle) Schaefer, Tiffany (Andrew) Ramsey, Tanner (Kelly) Schaefer, Elizabeth Schaefer, Adam Schaefer, Danielle (Patrick) Brick, Carmen Yost, Stephanie (friend Brian Meyer), Amanda (Doug) Purdy, Allie Schaefer, Abby (Dillon) Lesicko; and 47 great grandchildren with 2 more due in December, and 3 great-great grandchildren. Nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends also survive. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands: Eugene Schaefer and Alphonse Lodes, a son: Jimmy Schaefer, along with other relatives and friends.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, September 14, 2020 at Holy Family Catholic Church, Brillion. Officiating at the Mass of Christian Burial will be the Rev. Tom Pomeroy and Deacon Greg Van Thiel. Friends may call at the Wieting Funeral Home, Brillion, from 3:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Sunday, September 13, 2020 where a prayer service will conclude the visitation at 7:00 p.m. Friends may also call Monday morning at Holy Family Catholic Church, Brillion, from 9:00 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. Online condolences may be made.

The family would like to thank the caring staff at West Haven, Calumet County Hospice, Amanda Hackbarth, and Dr. O’Brien for the loving care they gave to Mom. We will forever be grateful to all of you! Mom was very well known for her great sense of humor.
