Obituary: Marian M. Reading

Marian M. Reading, age 96, of Brillion, passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 26, 2022 at Ellen’s Home Assisted Living in Germantown.


Marian was born on May 20, 1926 in Black Creek, WI, daughter of the late William and Catherine (Pohlman) Lorenz.

Her family moved to Brillion in her late teens when her Father took a job at the Brillion Iron Works, and since then she continued to make Brillion her hometown until just recently.

Marian started her career as a waitress at Al’s Minute Lunch in Appleton, worked for a time at the Brillion Iron Works, the Cannery in Brillion, and then ended her career working almost 10 years at Chilton Metal Works.

She enjoyed her gardening and being outside, sewing, and doing puzzles. Marian especially loved her family, and was always willing to help and care for others, which was shown through the caregiving she gave to her daughter, Sandy, her sister, Shirley, and her husband Frank.

Marian is survived by her children and their spouses: Jim & Kathy Lane of Brillion and Rose & Jim Mares of Germantown; grandchildren: Terry Lane and Jeff Lane both of Brillion, and Damon (Andrea) Ott of Gilbert, AZ; great-grandchildren: David and Trinity Ott; step-children, step-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

She is preceded in death by her parents; 1st husband and father of her children: Arden Lane; 2nd husband: Frank Reading; one son: Rodney Lane; one daughter: Sandy Lane; one grandson: Chad Ott; siblings and in-laws: Lorraine (Gordon) Marcks, Lorretta “Laura” (Alvin) Colling, Willard (Clarice) Lorenz, Ione (Harvey) Schoen, Eileen (Don) Grassell, Kenneth (Millie) Lorenz, and Shirley Lorenz.

Private family services will be held. Burial will be at Knollwood Memorial Gardens, town of Kossuth.

The family wishes to thank her special friends and caregivers Stacey Roehrig, Miller Osment, and Linda Huycke who helped and cared for Mom throughout the years.

The Pielhop Wieting Funeral Homes of Brillion & Reedsville are assisting the family.
