Obituary: Sharon Pingel

Sharon Pingel, age 80, a resident of Forest Junction, passed away Monday, July 29, 2024 at Thedacare Regional Medical Center, Appleton surrounded by her family after a long battle with cancer.





She was born on May 24, 1944 in Fond du Lac, daughter of the late Arthur and Alice (Rosenow) Krumbein. Sharon was a graduate of Winnebago Lutheran High School, Class of 1962. On October 19, 1963 she married Eugene E. Pingel at St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church, North Fond du Lac. Sharon was employed at Ripon Good Cookie Company and Fond du Lac Clothing Store before moving to Forest Junction.  There, she cared for many children throughout the years and provided childcare from the Pingel home. Her faith was very important to her, and she was an active member of the Ladies Aide at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, Brillion and the Owls Group. Sharon also belonged to the Calumet County Homemakers and the Calumet County Steam Engine Club. She enjoyed baking cakes for every special occasion and was a very good cook.  Sharon always put others first, and she especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren. 


Survivors include her husband of 60 years: Eugene “Gene” Pingel, Forest Junction; a daughter and son-in-law: Lisa (Marty) Kiesow, St. Nazianz; a son-in-law: Scott Sonntag, Witachaw, Kansas; her grandchildren: Crystal (Michael) Comer, Caitlyn (Christopher “Chris”) Hebb, Cirsten Sonntag, Desirae (special friend Darren) Kiesow, Joshua Kiesow, Benjamin (fiancé Kayla) Kiesow, her siblings: Dennis “Denny” Krumbein, Debbie (Jerry) Krause; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law: Mary Krumbein, Nancy Krumbein, Dean (Beatrice) Pingel, Gloria Peik, Beverly Schuman, and Barbara (Richard “Dick”) Drozd. Nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends also survive.


She was preceded in death by her parents, a daughter: Lori Ann Sonntag on March 1, 2015; her brothers and sister-in-law: Ronald Krumbein, Vaughn (Phyllis) Krumbein, Gene Krumbein, and Delbert “Del” Krumbein; her father-in-law and mother-in-law: Roland & Verona (Weigert) Pingel, and a brother-in-law: Alfred Peik. 


Funeral Services will be held at 3:00 p.m. Sunday, August 4, 2024 at Trinity EV. Lutheran Church, Brillion. Officiating at the Service will be the Rev. Thomas Fricke and the Rev. Ross Henzi with entombment on Monday at Knollwood Mausoleum, town of Kossuth. The family will greet relatives and friends at Trinity Ev. Lutheran Church, Brillion, from 12:00 p.m. (noon) on Sunday, August 4, 2024 until 2:45 p.m.
