TOWN OF KOSSUTH - Manitowoc County Sheriff Dan Hartwig said there was a single vehicle fatal crash that was discovered shortly after sunrise on Friday, October 1.
At approximately 6;47 a.m., the Manitowoc County Joint Dispatch Center was informed of a
crash scene on County R north of Berringer Road in the Township of Kossuth.
That is about 1½ miles north of Rockwood.
Deputies and EMS personnel responded to the scene and determined the crash likely occurred earlier in the morning.
The preliminary investigation indicates a 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee was traveling southbound on County R, entered the east ditch and overturned a number of times prior to having a final resting position on its passenger's side.
A 28-year-old woman from Green Bay was ejected from the vehicle and was pronounced dead at the scene.
"On behalf of our Sheriff's Office, I would like to offer our deepest condolences to all those affected by this tragic incident," Sheriff Hartwig said.
The crash remains under investigation by the sheriff's office and the Manitowoc County Coroner's Office.
It is unclear if fog was a contributing factor.
Assisting at the scene were the Francis Creek Fire Department, Rockwood Fire Department, Manitowoc County EMS First Responders, Manitowoc Fire & Rescue, Manitowoc County Coroner's Office, Manitowoc County Highway Department, and PK's Towing.
The emergency response was coordinated by the Manitowoc County Dispatch Center.
