School report cards released: some concerns evident

MADISON – The state Department of Public Instruction released the school report cards, outlining assessments of school districts and their constituent schools, on Tuesday of last week.

The assessments are for the 2016-2017 school year.

Only 44 districts in the state earned five-star ratings for significantly exceeding expectations. The Wrightstown Community School District was one of them, with a score of 87.4 on a scale of 100.

The other three districts in our area all ranked in the second tier, with four stars, for exceeding expectations. They were: Brillion 80.7; Hilbert 79.3; and Reedsville 78.7.

In all four districts, the lowest scores were at the high school level.

The grading metric used in the state report card is shown in the chart above.

The reports cards and the supporting data are public information, and can be seen on the DPI website at https://apps2.dpi.wi.gov/reportcards/

The report cards come in two forms: a two-page summary, and a 15-page detailed report.
