Megan Schuman is in the record books for Winona State University.

The 2023 Brillion High School graduate made her Division II collegiate basketball debut last Friday night in a 75-66 loss against Northwestern Oklahoma State University during a weekend of games in Alva, Okla.

Schuman played 12 minutes and grabbed two rebounds. Schuman has a redshirt freshman designation for the 2024-25 season after last year’s redshirt season.

This weekend, Winona State plays its first home games of the season against Maryville University on Friday, Nov. 15, and against Truman State, Saturday, Nov. 16.

In high school, Schuman led the Brillion girls to three straight conference championships in the 2020-21, 2021-22 and 2022-23 seasons. The team reached the sectional championship game in 2022.

She worked her way up the all-time ranks and finished as the second highest girls scorer in school history behind only Mary Berghuis, one of her assistant coaches and mentors. Schuman was named Eastern Wisconsin Conference Player of the Year. She was also first team all-conference in volleyball and holds multiple school records in track and field.

Schuman is part of a small elite group of former Brillion basketball players who reached the Division I or II levels. The list also includes Berghuis (D1-Southern Illinois University), Jeremy Lorenz (D1-Wofford University), Amanda (Popp) Kabat (D1-University of Wisconsin-Green Bay) and Kylie Moxley (D2-Michigian Tech).
