TOWN OF CATO - The Manitowoc County Sheriff's Office and Manitowoc County Coroner's Office are investigating the death of a man whose remains were found on Saturday, January 29 in a wooded area in the Town of Cato.

The body of Kurt Pocan, Sr., 42, of Keshena, was found well off the roadway. There were no signs of trauma, according to information released by Sheriff Dan Hartwig.

Detectives determined that Pocan was the operator of a stolen vehicle belonging to a member of his family. The vehicle, stolen in late December, was found on Grimms Road, south of U.S. 10, on December 29. It was unoccupied and officers believe it had run out of fuel.

Deputies were unable to find anyone associated with the abandoned vehicle at that time.

Pocan's body was found on January 29 about one-half mile from the site where the car was found on December 29.

An autopsy is being conducted. Hypothermia is believed to be a factor in Pocan's death.

Menominee Tribal Police are working with Manitowoc County authorities. The Wisconsin State Patrol, Wisconsin DNR and Valders Fire Department assisted at the scene.

"Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family of Kurt Pocan, Sr.," Sheriff Hartwig said.

Funeral services for Mr. Pocan are scheduled for February 10 at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Neopit.
