APPLETON – Special Olympics Wisconsin athletes need your help so they can successfully compete at the 2021 State Track & Field Meet on Saturday, June 26 at Lawrence University.
Special Olympics Wisconsin is seeking volunteers to help throughout the day as the athletes go for gold in running, walking, wheelchair racing, jumping and throwing events.
Volunteer Positions include:
· Timers: Help time the races for the athletes
· Field Events: Help measure, record and escort the Standing/Running Long Jumps, Softball Throw and Turbo/Mini Javelin.
· Athlete Escort: Walk with the athletes from staging to event to awards to make sure they are in the right spot.
“The State Track & Field Meet provides an opportunity for Special Olympics Wisconsin athletes to compete against other athletes from around the state and showcase their abilities,” said Jason Blank, Senior Director of Sports. “The unique track season has shown the true dedication of our athletes, coaches, volunteers, and families and we are excited celebrate them this weekend.”
While Special Olympics Wisconsin is excited to see the athletes and volunteers in action, safety is the number one priority. Special Olympics Wisconsin’s COVID-19 safety protocols include required screenings, physical distancing and masks. Additionally, the track meet will run in a stationed approach to limit interaction. Teams will be scheduled together and rotate through four stations to complete their events.
