BRILLION – Heather Gruett, a former member of the Brillion Common Council, a visionary real estate developer and community leader, lost her battle with cancer.
Funeral services for her will be held at 11 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Rantoul, just south of Potter, on Thursday, December 15. Visitation will take place on Wednesday, December 14, from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Weiting Funeral Home in Brillion, and will continue at the church from 9 to 10:45 a.m. on Thursday.
Heather, 39, was first diagnosed with lung cancer in June of 2015 and learned that the form of cancer affecting her was inoperable and incurable.
A large fundraiser was held for Heather and her family in Brillion in October to help with medical bills. Her reaction was typical. On her blog, she wrote: “Everybody who showed up to that benefit, all your love and support is absolutely amazing – every time I think about it, it just brings me to tears. I am so blessed to have so many great people in my life that words cannot even describe.”
In addition to her service on the Common Council, Heather Gruett served on the Brillion Housing Authority, was active in the Brillion Area Jaycees, Brillion Area Family of Funds and the Between the Lakes Habitat for Humanity chapter.
“It has given me great pleasure to give back and watch the community flourish,” she said.
Among those surviving her are her husband, Chad Guett, and their children, Payton and Paige.
