Friday Night Lights returned on Friday night, August 19, with the first of two non-conference games.
Hilbert 34, Brillion 14: In a meeting of non-conference teams just a few miles apart, Hilbert traveled to Brillion and beat the Lions in their first game coached by Hall of Fame member Mike Moreau since 2006. Hilbert quarterback Carson Grenzer threw one touchdown and rushed for two more. Austin Cullen rushed for 154 yards and two touchdowns. Jaden Bastian led Brillion with 78 yards rushing.
Reedsville 21, Mishicot 6: The Panthers said goodbye to many seniors from the 2021 state championship team, but the players remaining picked up where the team left off last season. The defense held Mishicot to negative-9 total yards in the home game. Dain Totten rushed for 138 yards and two touchdowns. Parker Maney scored on a 75-yard run in the third quarter to put Reedsville up two touchdowns.
Wrightstown 20, Shawano 18: The Tigers traveled to Shawano and held on for a narrow victory to start the season.
