WHS soccer knocks off top seeded New Holstein

The Brillion News

NEW HOLSTEIN – The New Holstein/Elkhart Lake-Glenbeulah soccer team was unbeaten in the Eastern Wisconsin Conference, ranked fifth in the state in Division 3 and seeded first among the 17 teams in the Seymour subsectional, but Wrightstown was better in the regional championship game Saturday, playing the Huskies to a 0-0 overtime tie and then beating them 3-2 in a shootout.

Senior Henry Neerdaels blocked two shots on goal in the penalty kick shootout to move the Tigers to the sectional semi-final on Thursday, October 27. WHS will take on Seymour, which beat Berlin 3-0 on Saturday.

Wrightstown play nearly 30 minutes a man short, after Tanner Mierow collided with New Holstein’s Max Kossman. Mierow was injured and the referee ejected him from the contest, forcing the Tiger to finish the game with 10 men on the field.

Complete game report and photos in the October 27 print edition of The Brillion News.
